The public transport network in Nice is great - it’s reliable and cheap. We recommend using Google Maps which provides accurate directions and departure times.
Almost all the tram and bus lines are 1.50 euros (2 euros to buy the refundable card which can be topped up at the machines at bus and tram stops, or you can buy a solo ticket from the bus driver). A solo ticket allows you to change between different buses and trams within 74 minutes, but not on the return journey. The ‘multi’ ticket costs 10 euros and includes 10 tickets (only available from vending machines). There’s also the option for ‘Pass 1 Jour’ which costs 5 euros and is valid for 24 hours and ‘Pass 7 Jours’ ticket for 15 euros which is valid for 7 days.
You can buy a ticket from a bus driver or on a vending machine, but you must make sure to always tap your card on the yellow button to validate the journey or you could face a fine. Buses run every day, and after 10pm night buses are available. To stop an approaching bus wave your hard, use the front door to enter, validate your ticket and press the STOP button to get off.
There are 3 main tram lines in Nice; T1 (main train station, Gares Thiers, to Nice’s Old Port), T2 (Old Port to the airport) and T3 (airport to the stadium). At each tram stop there is a vending machine where you can buy tickets but you must validate it inside the vehicle or on the platform before boarding - tickets cannot be purchased from the tram driver!
The main train station is Gare Thiers, where you can jump on a train to Monaco, Antibes and many more towns across the French Riviera. The station is 23 minute walk from the apartment or a 4 minute walk to Cathédrale-Vieille Ville where you can get tram L1 in the direction of Henri Sappia, getting off at Gare Thiers. The tram journey takes 8 minutes.
Uber operates in Nice and tends to be a cheaper option than taxis.
